I can’t vouch for the protein sauce in each tin, but as a designer and athlete I am pulled to the shelf by this packaging that is so different from what crowds the stores today. This is a package I would like to reuse around the house as needs arise—a sturdy and good looking tin that beats most plastic containers out there.

Project Description

The Blend Bros. mission is help everyday athletes bridge the gap between fitness and the kitchen through knockout tasty, health-conscious food products with absolutely no compromise on flavor.

Their flagship product Savoury Blend is a high-protein sauce designed as a convenient and tasty way for health-conscious foodies to get more protein into their diets without relying solely on protein shakes and whey drinks.

Manchester-based design agency Design By Day created a bold, confident identity for a brand dedicated to both foodies and athletes alike - asserted through the prominent fork and dumbbell mark.

The packaging breaks away from traditional protein category conventions, using minimal design, classic typography and color to represent the quality, savory ingredients, whilst the exposed metal tin emphasizes the gym connection. In a market saturated with sweet protein shakes and busy design, Savoury Blend stands out head and shoulders above the competition.

Production Lesson(s)

Getting a sample proof before going into production was essential, especially as we were using the metal of the tin itself to provide the backdrop for the design and some of the typography. We re-addressed the smaller typography of each individual flavor which was getting lost when being created by negative ink space. Instead white Ink was opted for while in production.”
