The Dupli-Group

Turns out that if you are not sure USPS will accept your mailer but you are a determined soul you can actually get in touch with the design department, send them a mock up, and get feedback. Luckily the design team got approval on their idea and were able to move forward as planned. I am particularly fond of the wrap-around closure that can be hand-addressed.

Project Description

In collaboration with Tru Studio, we designed this 12-page, single saddle-stitched booklet to give prospective Creative Directors and Art Directors a brief look into Steve and Anne’s work. A custom bi-fold wrap covered the fore-edge of the booklet and adhered to the front and back covers, serving as a seal for mailing purposes, gave a second layer to the piece and added an unexpected detail. The mailing panel side of the wrap took on a postcard-style layout so Steve and Anne could write a personal message for each recipient.

Production Lesson(s)

We originally wanted to go with a single gold staple for the binding, but learned that most printers won't use them because the gold flakes off the staples during the binding process and jams their equipment. Also, we were concerned that the wrap and placement of the stamp wouldn't be accepted by the post office machines, so after a lot of digging, we were magically connected to the USPS design department (2 people strong) and they understood what we were trying to do! They had us send them a mockup in the mail, reviewed it in great detail and luckily, we got the green light and confidence we needed to move forward with the printing.”
