We often showcase the amazing things you can do with paper as you lay ink on it, but this booklet shows you another side to what you can do with paper to illustrate your ideas and share messages with your audience. Carefully crafted, photographed, and printed the layers of paper surely convey more than just metaphors.

Project Description

A deeply rooted love of learning starts at an early age. That’€™s why at Shipley, an independent school in Philadelphia, it was so important to get parents on board at the Lower School level. To make their message memorable, we turned it into a story about a map, and the journey towards readiness. We used colorful cut paper illustrations and engaging copy to take parents through the strong and educational foundation their children could receive. And we took it one step further by including an interactive activity map for students, meant to engage and inspire them at all ages.

Production Lesson(s)

Planning the paper-cut illustration was probably one of the hardest parts of creating this book. Melissa did an amazing job executing the illustrations to the same dimensions of the book which became crucial when designing. The dimensions of the illustrations became particularly important when photographing the final pieces so that everything fell into place in layout. Another thing that got tricky was photographing each paper-cut illustration because nothing was glued together.  Each piece/layer had to be carefully moved with tweezers to get the shadows and lighting just right.”
