Project Description

This year for the 2016 Wake Awards, presented by Wakeboarding Magazine, our team conceived and produced 16 individually designed VHS Cases which held golden VHS cassettes. The creative direction came sort of as a joke which played well with our early 1990s theming. The theming served as a nod to when our sport found its genesis and as in most board sports, receiving new edits on tapes had always been a much anticipated and coveted moment.

The concept was too fitting not to produce.

Each rider received a custom case unlike any other. While the graphics were modeled after familiar VHS blank cases, some where original. The actual VHS cassette tapes where custom painted at a local auto body and paint shop here in Orlando and the contents of each tape were none other than early 90s flicks including Heat, Speed, You've got Mail and of course, Dances with Wolves.

Production Lesson(s)

When an idea is too good, work your ass off and make it a reality! Take your time to find the right vendors. Test and prototype and lean on your vendors advice and experience to create the best possible product! ”
