Monday Variety

I know, variety is usually reserved for lazy fridays when I can’t think of anything better to talk about. But I want to leave a few links for the upcoming days, since tomorrow I start my vacation. I’m going to be away for two weeks in Mexico City, so I won’t be as attentive to all of you as I would like, but I’ll still check in from time to time between tacos.

- Oded Ezer: one of the few design stars from Israel. Really amazing work.

- Planet Propaganda: great work from the middle of nowhere in Madison, Wisconsin

- Base design: excellent quality work with a simple how-didn’t-I-think-of-that- navigation.

- Shrine: even more great work, with an even smoother navigation.

Re Base: I would hope you didn't think of the navigation because it's supremely unattractive, and requires a ridiculous amount of code. But that's just me.

Also, can someone please confirm that the text on that page(ie: Direct access to our works, etc) is coming from embedded Flash files(which, incidentally, don't load in Mozilla)? I'd especially be interested in a reason for that, other than simple perversity, unless that just is the reason.

I was curious about the old site in regards to the pervesity question, but can't get it to load.

Their work itself, is nice, though I've yet to find a web-based piece, which might be part of my answer.

I think it's attractive, well... I wouldn't say attractive, but I like it. I like the colors and the crampedness. But that's just me. It's all a matter of opnions.

>and requires a ridiculous amount of code. But that's just me.

Correct if I'm wrong, but I think nowadays code-length and graphic sizes (kb) is not a huge issue as before, since more and more people have high-bandwidth connections. As far as the poor soul who has to write all the code, well, that's his problem.

>I was curious about the old site in regards to the pervesity question, but can't get it to load.

I hadn't seen that site before, so I just spent a few minutes with it, and it is quite perverse. I appreciate the sans-mouse navigation but it is quite stressful. I like to click.

Haha. Exactly.

>I really dont appreciate Oded Ezra as much as i appreciate his girlfriend (i think she is, anyway)..

She has pretty good work too. Thanks for the link. As far as identity work, Ezer's is stronger.

I quite like some aspects of Base's navigation. It's very simple. It does have a slightly cheesy Mac 512k feeling, but I'm cool with that. I prefer less when it comes to navigation. Too many times I see animated nav for the sake of animation. Plus, their work is really nice.
