Catchy titles

There hasn’t been such buzz over opening title sequences since Seven. And I’m sure some of you are tired of hearing how much people loved Catch me if you can’s opening titles. But the fact of the matter is that those titles are the best of the past decade, to say the least. They are the smart, quirky and the quality is top notch.

The titles come courtesy of Nexus Productions in London (sorry, no web site) who in turn hired french animation designers Florence Deygas and Olivier Kuntzel, creators of this weird cow called Winney. Add to that a great score from composer John Williams and the result is a three minute smorgasbord: (I don’t know how to spell that word) for every designer in the world.

For those who are typographically obsessed head on to Typographica to read about the typefaces used in the movie.

We still love you.

That's why I specified that I didn't know. Not that that makes it right, but it takes a lot to accept one's shortcomings in spelling. Even when the word is shmorgazbord.

Anbody know the correct spelling?

And come to think of it, there should be a web site with your url. It would be extremely popular.

Whoops! I hit "post" much too quick. And, as a result, I made a post that sounds like something that would have come out of Homer Simpson's mouth.

Shmorgazbord is really smorgasbord.

You beat me to it,

Smorgasbord:

n : (Scandinavian) an assortment of foods starting with herring or smoked eel or salmon etc with bread and butter; then cheeses and eggs and pickled vegetables and aspics; finally hot foods; served as a buffet meal.

Thanks for the link. That's a fine site.

Back to the topic... what did you guys think about the Catch me titles? Good? Bad? Too Saul Bassesque?

very saul bass. i am also reminded of henry mancini's pink panther theme and well, the pink panther titles all together. while i find these titles reminiscent, i still think they are superb. still not as good as se7en though...

So I've finally seen the movie, and it was great. The titles were fantastic. And then, at the very end, there's some on-screen type about what the character is doing now, and they use a foot/tick mark instead of a proper apostrophe. I guess the designer had left the building by then...
