Clean Underware

The happy bunch at Underware have redesigned their site and have a spankingly fresh new logo. Underware is a (typo)graphic design-studio based in the Hague with offices in Helsinki and Amsterdam. And responsible for great typefaces like Dolly, Sauna and Speak Up’s bitmapped Unibody.

Underware is mostly known for their work on Sauna and it’s type specimen book, the first one to resist 248F of hot steaming, um, steam. Some parts of the book are only readable at 176F. They even held a sauna party to preview the typeface.

Them crazy kids.

I don't know about similar to Unibody, it' pretty eccentric. I tried converting it for you in Fontographer, but I'm not sure how to do that with bitmap fonts.

Atomic Media has a great collection of bitmap fonts, also check Fonts for Flash, they too have a great selection and are available for PC.

i have a number of bitmap fonts installed but unibody is kinda italicized which is what i am looking for. actually, i would rather use "ramona" but it's too darn expensive. lol

Guys, nice to see that there's interest on Unibody for PC! At the moment we're expanding the family for MAC and mainly for Flash. Perhaps there will be a pc version coming later too, but no promises. If you have any wishes how to expand the existing family — just speak up.

We were fortunate enough to have Underware co-founders Bas Jacobs and Akiem Helmling present at TypeCon2002 in Toronto last July. Their presentation was one of the highlights of the conference. After their session, TypeCon attendees literally stampeded to the vendor area to buy all the Underware books and other goods they could get their hands on.

I can attest to the fact that the Sauna specimen works as advertised... during the after-hours conference festivities, five or six of us made use of my hotel room bathroom, filling it with steam from the shower so we could read the hidden "hot" text.

Memorable.
