The Word It Book

It is here. (And it is shipping!). It sits on my desk and I smile happily, as I flip the pages. After a year and half of working with HOW Books, we are proud and ecstatic to present you The Word It Book, in which Speak Up presents a gallery of interpreted words.

The Word It Book

No small feat itself, the book’s publishing is really thanks to all of you who participate every month in Word It, sending us your artwork and having us share it with the world. This is something we look forward to every Sunday morning as we gather the weekly e-mails and go about the task of adding them to the site. Although, I have to admit, not as much fun as putting together the book and all of the necessary images we needed to generate for the book — and to prove how much fun we had, we have put together a behind-the-scenes look at the making of some of those images.

All in all, we found a way to include:

Congratulations Bryony and Armin.
It's a great book - both visually and contentwise.
I already have my copy(es) (One I bought from Amazon and the other one I receievd from the authors-insider privilege)
I also congratulate all the Word-It contributors who have made Word-It a special 5 x 5 oasis

Congratulations Bryony and Armin.
Indeed it is a great achievement for you both and all contributors.
I am ordering it soon to take it home to India before my vacation.
Cheers!

I received my copy yesterday, I had to pre-order it! I was so happy to look at all of the submissions that I remember from the past. It sits on my shelf and now many of the Speak Up contributors have been immortalized by the Word-it book.

Great job to everyone who had a hand in putting this book together!

Cool. I was hoping there'd be a thing for Mr. Tharp. He was into it.

I can't wait! I'm thinking of dropping by a B&N though I know it won't even be there yet. When do you think it'll hit the stores?

On Apr.10.2007 at 11:41 AM
Armin’s comment is:

Kosal... My guess is that it would take a couple of extra weeks for the bookstores to put the inventory on the floor after they receive it. But then again, I have no idea what happens at those stores.

Sweet! I love you guys! I'm stoked to my copy (pre-ordered via amazon.com).

It's the first (okay, second) time any of my stuff has been printed!

Hey! From the photos it looks handsomely designed. I'm gonna put it on my Christmas list. I'll be patient. Thanks for including me, B&A.

You've given new life to that goofy typeface....

Oh I can see even a tiny crop of my picture on the back cover :) I can't wait!
I can't believe the amount of detail you put into it. Especially the different ways to display the names!

Andrew, if you didn't hear from us in the past year asking for permission then it means it's not in the book.

super excited about getting a copy of the book.

I can't wait to see all of the work (including my own, I admit it) annnnd, I can't wait to go visit the speak up exhibit @ the Cooper Hewitt next week (my first trip to NYC!)

Congrats on a job well done.

Greg Scraper’s comment is:

I'll never forget getting the email requesting permission to use my word it (from the "oops" month), which contained a PDF with the word it inside placed in the permission form. For days I thought my word it hadn't been attached properly because all I saw was the "broken link" icon surrounded by a 5x5 black line, but then suddenly I realized that that's what I had submitted for the word "oops."

Shahla’s comment is:

You had me in a BL (belly laugh) and LOL with that comment, Greg. Oops was the second time ever, I contributed. I began with "green."

Got my copy yesterday... it's really a cool book. My kids and I looked through it together, and when my 7-year-old son saw his own picture in there, and my name next to it, his eyes widened and he said "We're famous!"

Nice work Bryony and Armin. The book captures the personality of this site very well - I feel honored to have played a small role.

I'm happy that my first piece published in a book has the word "fuck" in it.

The book looks awesome. Great job, Speak Up!

Armin & Bryony, you guys did a lovely job on this book. And the quality of the work inside is very high. I can especially commend pages 100, 101 & 110.
