Web Design 101: What *not* to do

Today’s Friday lesson concerns this fine web site.

Things to note:

  1. Do not use a domain name that would cause 14 year old teenagers to giggle convulsively.
  2. Do not repurpose the logo of one of the “premier voice and data communications companies in the world” and expect no one to notice.

(via SVN…yea…I’m lazy today…)

And speaking of what not to do...Darrel...Shouldn't links to a new site open in a new window, not hijack your current one? ;-)

I wonder how many emails they get from people saying "I want powergenitalia!!!" :)

Here's an idea, out do them and register superpowergenitalia.com

(For the record, I think this is a joke, but hey, it's Friday!)

Skeptical, I decided to do a quick check on the validity of this. Could actually be true.

Allwhois lists an Italian registrant at the same address as on the site.

I also came across this page that indeed notes that it is owned by an Italian battery company. (Powergen has denied any ties.) They also note the IT resource Experts Exchange has expertly added a hyphen to their former url: expertsexchange.com. But Who Represents is still using whorepresents.com

Nice detective work Patrick, and worth a few extra laughs.

I can just see the headline:

----

Tired of all those old boring whorepresents[.com]?

Ready for something bolder, faster, and b e t t e r suited to your fun-loving lifestyle?

Try powergenitalia[.com]!

Brought to you by your friends at expertsexexchange[.com]

Sorry for a silly post ;-)

I love it. A 3-d rendered globe spinning on a single plane. Brilliant!

Not only that, it fades in and out, too! I've been working on a complex fade'n'spin on my logo for years. I don't see the logo for that "premier voice and data communications company" spinning. They must just be hacks!
