How Far is too Far?

Normally, I would avoid posts like this. But this will be an example of when a designer or advertiser must draw the line. We have the tools and the knowledge to make these sort of things possible and it’s a shame when we (designers) use such tools to promote something that is wrong.

What am I talking about? This. And there is more where that came from, just scroll down to the Cofani funebri e fascino section and look around. Not only that, they have a whole calendar with the theme. Really, how low can you go to get a sale? I know it’s in Europe, and people are more open minded or whatever, but this is just ridiculous.

And, no, it’s not only a couple of photoshop tricks or prank photos, it’s a real business, and a part of their coffin inventory is zazzied up with these lovely ladies.

Armin, you serious?

I mean do you really care of this? Do you think that is a sign that something has gone too far?

You guys living in the land of opportunities, where everybody has the right to think its own way and spread his own thoughts are considering this offensive?

I'm sorry but, except for the graphics wich are poorly done, I don't see anything so blasfemous.

My personal opinion is that's just the way americans usually reckon, with a lot of hypocrisy, do I have to mention how you act reguarding alchol, firearms, drugs and terrorism?

Guess you allready know.

Sorry for the tone, but this kind of things really make me nervous.

Ale, yes, I'm serious.

And since I'm mexican, not american, and have just lived in the US for 3 years I don't have the same opinions as most people have here. It doesn't bother you that they are trying to sell coffins with pictures of raunchy ladies, spreading their legs on top of a coffin? I don't know about you, but that bothers the shit out of me. And I'm all open minded and stuff, but there are things where this kind of trash doesn't belong. Freedom of speech doesn't make things right. You can say (or in this case, advertise) whatever the hell you want, but there are cases (no pun intended) where you need to show some respect.

I don't mind your tone at all. I actually think it's interesting that it didn't bother you as much. Not that it had to.

Armin, it's ok you're bothered by the ladies on the coffins, while actually it's interesting that you probably aren't by ladies with guns, like, let's say, a 'Guns&Ammo' cover.

Hasta luego

No dude, that's hot! : O

Seriously, you are right. I probably wouldn't be bothered as much.

What's amazing is that someone thinks that coupling flesh with coffins will actually lead to increased coffin sales. I'm skeptical.

I don't know man... nothing says "I want to be buried in that coffin!" like a porn star on top of a coffin.

Actually, that gave me a good laugh!

Okay, maybe a bit tasteless, but it cracked me up. Having just returned from Italy, it doesn't surprise me in the least!

I will have to admit that I laughed a lot, but it just seems so wrong.
