(Est. 2009) “StratusGrid is a next generation managed services company utilizing Transformational Intelligence™ to provide precise cloud strategy, implementation, migration and management.”
Kyle Tezak (Minneapolis, MN)
We wanted to take this logo beyond the usual cloud imagery and ended up in outer space, naturally. It not only suggests a higher level of service and technology, it represents the sci-fi geeks who work at the company.

The old logo was pretty good, playing off the idea of stratus clouds with an icon making it rain with bits and data; perhaps a weird metaphor for cloud services but why not? The new icon does away with the cloud reference — a good thing since clouds are to cloud services what the maple leaf is to Canada — and instead goes literally beyond the clouds and into space with a spaceship leaving an “S” trail while orbiting a planet with a “G” inside. I think the “G” would have benefitted from being a custom drawing to match the rest of the illustration as opposed to repeating the GT Walsheim “G”, which makes for a nice choice for the wordmark. The addition of space debris is charming and cool, animating nicely at their site, and the green/orange/black color palette is unexpected but well balanced. Overall, a strong effort to differentiate this cloud service from other cloud services while letting their dork flag fly… I mean, they include a “Stardate” on their site.
