Ready for The Brand Quiz, Hotshot?

The Brand Quiz

If you have some time to kill between now and Monday (or any day after that actually) perhaps you would like to test your brand awareness by taking The Brand Quiz, a fairly difficult challenge that asks you to name a brand based on two color hints and two ambiguous hints. I’m somewhat embarrassed to admit I only scored 14/21, but I had a root canal and wisdom tooth pulled out on Tuesday, so I’m pretty sure something, somewhere got dislodged in the process. If you think you can do 21/21 there is still the challenge of doing it in less time than your opponents. The quiz has been put together by London-based VYRE.

I got 14/21.

Is there a list of the answers somewhere? The one with the two purples and the glass of milk and clue: I can feel it coming in the air tonight” stumped me (among others).

It told me I got 19/21, but I’m sure I missed at least 4, so I’m not sure how the scoring works. I’d also love to see the answers.

karan’s comment is:

Submit doesn’t work for me, despite getting 20/21 =(

Katie: check out this ad.

I didn’t get the “mind the brand” one unfortunately, and the clues for the last one are a bit confusing, and easier to tell if you’re UK based.

Christopher’s comment is:

18/21 I was worried as an American there might be too many brands I wasn’t familiar. I forgot our brands are so ubiquitous.

I do hope they at some point post the answers. Missed Cadbury, the Brazilian River one (which I first thought was VALE, but wrong colors), and whatever the one with the bees and the gas tank cover was.

Aced. Please remember this when you look at the high scores and it doesn’t reflect any of ours.

Meryl Friedman’s comment is:

Some of these I thought were less familiar as an American (a certain candy company), but the hardest ones were those whose brand colors I didn’t associate strongly with the brand (a certain mobile service provider and the first question with the Brazil logo, who I think of as orange and blue, due to it’s website).

what is a logo purple with a milk it isn’t a Milka !

Having worked in Germany, I thought the exact same thing! At last minute the right answer came to me, though.

I missed one – as scottish as apple pie?!? I still don’t get it and I know the answer – and didn’t get the last question, yet it gave me a 21/21 score. Perhaps I was just radiating brandsmarts through the interwebs. ;-)

18/21

Honestly, the colors were generally the second, if not third clue for me. I mostly got these based off of the verbal clues. I’m not a very brand conscious person though—meaning I don’t buy many brand-name items.

theo’s comment is:

Hi everyone,

Theo from VYRE here, the guy to blame for the quiz.

Thank you all very much for playing it, and thanks too for your comments - I’m going to look at the hi-score thing today and see what’s going on. Sorry to all those winner winner chicken dinners who have been conned out of their well deserved glory :)

@cody milhouse and Adam Haase:
You just enter your guess. If you’re right you’ll get a nice big tick and move on to the next question automatically, and if you’re wrong you’ll get a question mark. I thought a big red X might be a bit too unfriendly.

Thanks again everyone!

16/21. It seems pretty pointless offering up the chance to try again. Makes a mockery of the high score table. Do you really think someone could get all of these correct in just a shade over a minute?

6. Safety in numbers.

8. On thin ice.

@ Theo

Thanks for addressing that. I was totally stoked to have done so well (since I’m not in the design or advertising field, like so many of this blog’s followers are). I wanna see my name on that hi-score board, man! I still can’t believe I got #21. I typed it in like, “no way it’s this, but it won’t hurt to try” and then it gave me a check mark! Woo!

Im so confused on the last one. Where does the cyan and magenta colors play in to the solution? Im sure there is an obvious answer to that, but darn it for the life of me, I cant understand.

theo’s comment is:

Hi Aliea

The clue for the last question shows certain airport destination codes on the left and certain dates on the right.

BCN MCMXCII
JAO MCMXCVI
BWU MM
ATH MMIV
PEK MMVIII

So you have to identify the next in the sequence.

I wanted the last one to be a tough one :)

Pulling out all of the stops, I couldn’t get them any faster than 33 seconds. The website is too slow for me to go any faster. I just don’t see how anyone’s gotten it down to 25 seconds.
