Lead Image

Gabe Ferreira may have the quintessential modernist business card. With his web address carved out of black mat board, he has done away with the distinction between message and medium.

Project Description

The idea behind these experimental business cards was to combine the two things that typically make a business card—the medium and the content—into one single piece. With this typography-driven design, the viewer can't distinguish between what's the information and what's the medium. The cards are exactly the size of a conventional business card.

Production Lesson(s)

I wanted to embrace the constraints of traditional business cards and work within that realm. Since the cards were laser cut and the overall size was pretty small, I had to create typography that would hold together very well and keep the card sturdy. The first round of cutting was a failure because the letters were too thin, but the second time around it worked beautifully.”
