Project Description

Amanda and Kevin approached me to work on their wedding invitations with the desire to create something appropriate for a glam camp wedding. They wanted to keep things elegant, while also being casual and conversational. Kitsch was out and we were set on using a simple color palette. After meeting and discussing ideas, we landed on a black and white invitation theme that incorporated pops of gold. Some friends and family were invited to stay overnight, and those people received golden tickets (bellybands) around their invitations. We also knew that we wanted the main invitation card to stand out and use black stock. While initially looking at gold foil with a black stock, we ultimately landed on letterpress due to the fact that it's less polished and tied back to the camp portion of the wedding nicely. Everything was packaged up and sent out in gold flecked Gmund envelopes.

Production Lesson(s)

The trickiest part of this project was getting a good contrast between the gold ink and black paper. After choosing letterpress over gold foil due the printing process and the fact that we could work closely with a local letterpress printer, we ran some tests. Originally we had anticipated using French paper but found that the Epic Black Classic Crest created a better contrast between the ink and stock.”
