Word it is your opportunity to express in any manner you wish and with as many (or little) other graphic elements as you need, what best describes each monthly word.
About Word It
Word It was originally a feature of the blog Speak Up, actively running since April of 2003 and in March of 2009 if was spun off into its very own blog that you are visiting at the moment. The premise of Word It is deceptively simple and, ideally, creatively addictive.
Every month we — as in Bryony and Armin, the editors — come up with a word. The criteria for word selection is somewhat random: We may try to relate it to the month, or we may tie it with world events, or we might just have heard someone utter a word and thought it would be interesting. Luckily, there is never a shortage of options. With a word selected, we typically introduce it five or seven days before the new month arrives so that you can get a head start.
Once the word has been revealed anyone can submit their visual interpretation of that word. There are absolutely no limitations as to what you can do, the idea is that you define your own challenge and set your own expectations. As Word Its come in, they are uploaded for all to enjoy — and in this new blog, for all to comment. We rarely censor Word Its, only if we deem them offensive or hurtful or there is copyright infringement, but for the most part we post everything.
Word It has proven itself over the years as a nice respite from client work and a space for visual tomfoolery as well as for testing out ideas and allowing your gut to react to the simplest of cues: Words.
Discussing, and looking for, what is relevant in, and the relevance of, graphic design.
Displaying opinions, and focusing solely, on corporate and brand identity work.
Corralling the most relevant and creative on- and off-line bits that pertain to the design community – and said community is openly invited and encouraged to add their hard-earned links.
Celebrating the reality that print is not dead by showcasing the most compelling printed projects.
Describing, tracking and explaining culture, commerce, politics, media, sports, brands — everything possible, really — through design.
Designing corporate and brand identities and full development of printed and digital matter for clients and us.
