Branding materials for Impero look good in bright vibrant yellow and stark black. Then, the clever part comes in with a fresh take on an old color combination. The minimalist approach with understated typography allow the yellow to do all of the yelling without distractions from overcomplicated graphics, which allows the eye to calm down after the initial impression and move into the information easily.

Project Description

Impero is a growing studio based in London and Sydney. Recent expansion beckoned for a brand refresh, so a completely new set of company stationery was compiled over the course of a year—complete with heavy pillow embossed duplex business cards, custom weekly planners, comp cards, notebooks, pencils and even had our new logo handcrafted into big wooden letters.

Production Lesson(s)

Since my move to London I've found that the trick is really just to find a good printer. Inspired by Mama's Sauce, we wanted to have the text knocked out on the letterpress plates and the background pressed onto the cards, creating an embossed effect on the text. We contacted a bunch of printers, most of which didn't really get what we wanted, told us they wouldn't be able to achieve good results or simply just said they wouldn't do it. I found Generation Press through a friend. They were incredibly professional and handled my numerous inquisitive requests about print processes without batting an eyelid. After we found them, it was smooth sailing. They had some samples mailed over (they're based in Brighton), we signed the quote, a week or two later we received a box of shiny new business cards—and we loved them!”
