I was pleasantly surprised last weekend when the doorbell rang and this magazine was hand delivered by one of the team members straight into my hand; later that night I had a chance to review it while sniffing the fresh ink that only designers are drawn to. While visually eclectic it all comes together the more you understand the source, the concept, and how it serves as a playground for a great group of people.

Project Description

The purpose of All Things X is to serve as an internal Culture magazine for IBM Studios around the world. The magazine focuses on the human centered emotion of IBMers and outside designers alike, trying to shed light on big ideas and lesser known mindsets of Creative people around the world.

The magazine is meant to feel like a slew of individual, culture driven stories. Each taking on their own voice and tone to match the emotion of the article itself, letting the viewer start to feel a spark of the intent before reading the words to feel.

Production Lesson(s)

We were actually on a tight time crunch to get this issue out, and when we received out quote back from our previous printer they had increased the prices by 721%. When we tried to reason with them and ask why they simply said "That is the price, we are sorry." So begin frantic mode and trying to find a new printer. Luckily a colleague of ours had a contact at a print facility in Georgia and once on the phone with them the relationship flourished naturally. Lesson learned: Be as good of friends with any and all printers you ever come across, you will need something in a pinch one day and you are at their mercy—€”on timing and price. ”
