Most conference name badges are as appealing as the patterns on the floor rugs of convention centers and most conference programs are disposable once the event has ended. Neither is the case with the name badge or the program that Good Apples created for the first TEDxBoulder conference. In part this is because they are one and the same thing. The program is relatively tiny, at 3.5 by 4.5 inches, and it comes saddle-stitched inside a lovely letterpressed wraparound cover that acts as the name badge where people simply write their name on it.
The collateral was created to promote and be distributed at the inaugural TEDxBoulder conference. We were required to work within the brand guidelines provided by TED, but wanted to create something that felt distinct from the parent conference. By extracting the “x” from the logomark and using it as a visual element throughout the pieces we were able to implement a simple solution that adhered to the guidelines provided by TED but felt unique to the Boulder event.
What’s amazing is that it definitely feels on brand with the TED events yet the designers found a great way to make it their own. Even the rough, red string to put the program/badge around your neck is nicer than anything I’ve worn at past conferences.
