The pursuit of the perfect portfolio is an endless road we courageously tackle more often than most of us care to do. The folks at kc-design stepped up to the challenge as they merged portfolio + promotion + anniversary.
This book was designed as a give-away piece at kc-designs open house anniversary party. Rather than simply showcasing our work we decided to take a more engaging approach which would involve the reader in discovering whats behind kc’s design approach. The book is bound using the french fold technique with the latest portfolio artwork printed in full colour on the “hidden” side of the page and artistic interpretations of the clients design elements printed on the outside of the page. The edges were perforated and the reader is asked to tear open the book to expose the work.
Judging by the pictures, this is one interaction-packed book fit for a good sit down of pulling and tearing and looking. Enough going on that a small production detail can be easily missed or overlooked.
I guess the lesson learned from this project is for one to double-check all the files for proper alignment of elements. The rather unconventional format and design of the cover had us put an element directly in the perforation, which was added after printing by ourselves. Luckily the mistake has been caught before the books were bound - but sadly after the covers were already printed.
