Thomas Manns & Company obviously know a thing or two (or a hundred) about book design. They do a great job of synthesizing different facets of a subject into one concise package. This project is no exception. The silkscreened covers are beautifully abstracted and look really enjoyable to hold.
The Foster + Partners small monographs are a highly focussed series of architectural publications. Each volume introduces a single building with insightful texts, lavishly reproduced images and a dedicated drawing section for the cognoscenti.
From the Sage building in Gateshead and Bejing Airport to the Hearst building in New York and the Sainsbury Centre in Norwich, the series aims to introduce the reader to the greatest projects by what is arguably the most famous architect of our times.
The challenge was to create a fresh new publication for a leading architectural practice without compromising their strong and recognisable identity, appealing both to experts from that sector as well as people who are simply passionate about architecture. The small monographs are a series of volumes dedicated to Foster + Partners iconic buildings, each one had to look part of the series and at the same time, from the jacket and cover, introduce a different subject. The silkscreened covers are in various colours with an abstract of their respective building on the front, each colour and detail carefully chosen, saying something about that building even before opening the book.
