Project Description

This piece was inspired by the French film "Mon Oncle" and was originally a contribution to the film poster site www.silverscreensociety.com. After watching the movie I was really struck by the amazing set design, and wanted to recreate the detail of the house where the main character lives. It was was more like a giant doll house in design than a real structure, but I loved all the tiny little details. You can really almost feel the influence this movie has had on Pixar, and I wanted to hint at that same "feel-good" tone in the illustration.

Production Lesson(s)

Creating manual separations of this file was somewhat of a nightmare. For the first time, I worked almost totally digitally on this piece (aside from an early sketch) and my Photoshop file had over 300 layers. Cutting and merging all those layers properly took about 8 hours... and that was on top of the 20+ hours of illustration.”
