Project Description

33 Books Co. is a small business based in Portland, Oregon that creates unique tasting diaries designed for taking down notes about beer, wine, whisk(e)y, coffee and other fine consumables.

A recent expansion into "tasting maps" — large format geographic posters based on the popular books — is the work you see here. Each poster was offset printed on heavy French brand recycled paper, and printed with a variety of metallic, custom and standard Pantone inks with dry trapping overprint effects.

Unique boxes were designed to work as both self-mailers and retail-ready packaging, hinting at the high production value contents within.

Production Lesson(s)

Always get drawdowns made on colored stock, especially when using dark stock. Metallic inks are mostly opaque, but not quite. Inks look different when overlaid wet than when overlaid dry. Paper expands and contracts according to humidity - big sheets more than small ones.”
