(Est. 2018) Weed & Wonderful is a new range of innovative, seaweed-based products which are sustainably produced as well as being entirely vegan. Already the new design has secured listings in Whole Foods Market, Holland & Barrett, and Amazon. The range of products was created by Seaweed & Co, a Whitley Bay, England-based company specializing in seaweed — an environmentally sustainable resource, which requires no fresh water and grows at 30-60 times faster than traditional crops, and an unparalleled combination of minerals and omega 3. Weed & Wonderful’s organic seaweed is sustainably wild harvested in the Scottish sea lochs around the remote islands of the Outer Hebrides. These pristine waters are carefully monitored, managed and have been granted exclusive harvesting rights from the Crown Estate.

The disruptive name ‘Weed & Wonderful®’ was coined, celebrating the positive, surprising nature of seaweed and its properties, whilst normalising the notion of consuming what many people only know as a Chinese or Japanese delicacy.
The visual identity illustrates gently swaying seaweed, anchored to the typography from which it grows. It’s an easily recognisable icon that has potential to stretch across many food categories, standing out in health stores and major retailers alike

This type of specialty project/product isn’t something I would normally cover but I thought it was all very well done in establishing a small brand with a limited range of products but with the potential of growing. The logo uses a fun and quirky typeface as the literal anchor to draw a large, illustrative rendition of a seaweed stemming from the ampersand. The composition of the logo works great on the packaging, providing a very strong graphic element at the top of all the variations and resting the product varieties underneath in simple and elegant typography. The silver foil details are a great touch too, making the product feel more unique and high-end, which might not be something many people expect from seaweed.
