To announce his change of address, Chicago-based designer Matthew Brett created an über local promotion using the very helpful subway maps issued by the Chicago Transit Authority. He even notes that “if you are polite, CTA will send you maps completely free of charge for gratuitous self promotion” and that “they even ship for free! Chicago tax dollars at work.” The announcement has a great impact factor simply by the size of the subway map as you open and, at least for me, it took a couple of seconds to realize what I was looking at, since the design is so in tune with that of the map. My favorite part about the announcement is the contrast between the glossy paper of the map and the matte finish of the silkscreen.
