Highlighting print capabilities to their maximum potential with a limited budget is as challenging as it sounds. This calendar is a great example of a fantastic outcome, and of the lesson: it never hurts to ask.

Project Description

Flash came to Up Inc. to help with creating a new promotional piece showcasing Flash's ability to print bright, saturated colors without the help of UV printing. The goal was to create the most colorful calendar possible (offset printed on uncoated paper, no UV). We feel like the results speak for themselves. The calendars were finished and distributed for free at a local design conference.

Production Lesson(s)

One major challenge with this project was imagery. 12 high res images were too costly for a project with such a small budget, and the short deadlines meant we weren't able to create our own imagery from scratch. We were coming down to the wire and were trying to find a way to use the imagery we wanted, or to come up with an alternative if things didn't work out. After contacting Getty Images directly, they stepped in and offered to sponsor the calendar and allowed us to use the images we really wanted for a great price. Without them, the project wouldn't have turned out the way it did. Lesson learned? It never hurts to ask. Also, producing intense and bright colours on an uncoated sheet is difficult, especially without UV presses, we worked hard to find the right inks for the the stock and adjust our curves to produce a beautiful piece.”
