Project Description

We rarely get the chance to create print pieces that don't involve ink, so when our client wanted a unique, out-of-the-ordinary invitation for their 15 Year Anniversary Celebration, we jumped on the chance to use gold/clear foil on matte black paper. Also, the fact that the client's logo is gold and black was a nice bonus that really reinforced our concept. The entire package consisted of the 2-sided invite, envelopes, and an RSVP card that was printed with metallic ink.

Production Lesson(s)

The biggest challenge was deciding the most cost-efficient print method to use in order to achieve the clear gloss effect that we wanted. We originally thought we were going to use a UV glossy spot varnish, but this proved to be pricey and less environmentally friendly. Our printer recommended using a clear foil, which ended up working great and fit into the client's budget. Our only other concern was whether or not the thin lines in the script typeface would hold up in the gold foil, but this proved to not be a problem at all. We were pleasantly surprised at how much detail the foil can hold. ”
