Project Description

Spindletop Design’€™s 2016 holiday card begins the year with the dropping of the holographic, foil-stamped ball! This interactive card combines unique assembly and construction with bright and celebratory typography to start 2016 with a bang.

Production Lesson(s)

A piece as complex as this requires constant attention and a full understanding of how it will be created and assembled to come together at the end. There were an almost unlimited amount of ways to derail the end result at every step during the design and production process.

We scored and die-cut the external sleeve, but care had to be taken during assembly to get the flap edges to align and not be too tight to prevent the duplexed 280#C insert to slide easily.

We also didn’€™t want the insert to fall out, but it needed to extend to reveal the whole countdown underneath which required a perfectly sized piece of foam tape to mount the New Year’€™s ball.

Luckily, everything worked out for the best after a bit of trial and error. It’s a testament to designing precisely, but leaving enough room for error to account for the types of difficulties that are common in the real world.”
