In Brief: Graphic Design, Referenced

Graphic Design, Referenced

Before we proceed with our regularly scheduled opinions on identity I wanted to take a moment to inform all of our wonderful readers that our latest book, Graphic Design, Referenced is now officially on the market. This is a 400-page beast with way too much information and way too many great images on the dear subject of graphic design. For all you identity fiends, we have a special 20-page section on logos and identity programs, including obvious mentions like UPS, FedEx and Coca-Cola and perhaps some non-obvious inclusions like the New School identity, the peace symbol and a little logo for a certain U.S. Presidential candidate. If you buy our book and do a big logo project in the near future send it to us and we’ll give you a glowing review here on Brand New. (Not).

Will have to check out your new book. :) I, like most other designers, am a sucker for pretty pictures.

"(Not)."

This took me all the way back to 1992. I had a hypercolor shirt with the words "I love school, NOT" emblazoned across the front it. It was a horrible year.

sweet book. how long did it take you guys to gather all of this information and produce the book? as detailed as it is, I would figure that it took quite a while.

and is this monster on Amazon yet?

Armin’s comment is:

From start to finish it was 18 months. The first 6 months were a little less busy, and the last 6 months it was basically full time. And by full time I mean 6 am to midnight regularly, plus some weekends.

And, yeah, it's on Amazon.

Kosal Sen’s comment is:

I was wondering about the typographical error (maybe?) on Amazon's version of the cover, but it looks corrected on your website. Congrats! =)

Armin’s comment is:

Kosal, you mean Bryony's last name? Yes, it should be Gomez-Palacio. The cover on Amazon is from the dummy phase, which also doesn't show the final stencil version of Stag that Christian Schwartz did. Let's see if we can get the right version up there.

Derrick Schultz’s comment is:

The protective film through me for a loop at first. It showed up and I thought my copy had been tossed down the stairs. A felt a little silly when I realized (30 minutes later) that it was just a protective film to be removed.

Otherwise it looks like quite the intense and thoughtful collection of materials (and you know Katie and I really liked seeing Nitsche given a full spread)
