A large book is a both a thrill and a challenge. In the case of this one, the adventure is heightened by the participation of 26 students and 6 faculty members who set out to raise the necessary funds to produce the book.
The idea for A to & stemmed from the number of students in our class. The theme was used to create a limited edition set of posters along with a unique Typeface (VisCom09) via a poster collection that was sold to raise money to fund the production of the book. In addition to the A to Ampersand posters, each double-page spread features a photograph of the student and two posters of their degree projects. The double-page spread offers the viewer an insight into each student’s personality and design skills/interests. In addition to the book, we designed a poster, a website and a photographic slideshow. The website features a variety of work from each student along with contact details.
It was originally intended to be print on uncoated stock, but the darkness of many of the posters was flooding and details were getting lost. A coated stock was used at the last minute rendering a finer and more successful result. Another challenge? The perfect alignment of the yellow spine. But careful considerations, and attention to detail during the pre-press stage ensued a beautiful catalog of poster work that students and staff alike should be very proud of.
