Part poster, part signage and part installation to the exhibition’s title—for an Andy Warhol show—recently used by the Indianapolis Museum of Art immediately caught our attention.

Andy Warhol relied a great deal on repetition in his work, and helped to democratize art by “mass producing” much of his work in his Silver Factory. For this title graphic that hangs just outside the exhibition “Andy Warhol Enterprises,” I wanted to design something that referenced this mass production and allowed visitors the opportunity to take a piece of the exhibition home with them.

Creating a way to both allow visitors to engage with the design as well as providing a unique take-away for several thousand people has been a big hit, and in the few days we’ve been open since the opening party October 9th, the first sheet, the “A” poster, is almost depleted!

This piece turned out beautifully, and am embracing the torn-edge appearance of the top portion of each pad as they are taken away by visitors. If I were to do it again, I probably would have screwed another material over the remaining top portion of each pad to make tearing the sheets away even easier. While each poster is perforated at the top, there’s a bit of a technique to tearing them away cleanly!

Live and learn and create, master and repeat if needed.
