In the midst of this past holiday decadence, in the abundance of color and sweet treats, a simple card stands out. A simple card with a simple idea that ripples and resonates with more people than just he one who takes it out of the envelope on a December day. I like this. I like the thinking behind it, the printing of it, and I like the simple act of giving.

This year we created a series of cards and calendars that were sent out to clients, suppliers, and friends. To demonstrate that the money we could have spent on elaborate printing, photography and illustration was being directed to charities, we took typical holiday card and calendar images and reduced them to simple descriptions, typeset in black and white. All the money saved was added to the amount we would have spent on client gifts and was donated to several charities chosen by our clients.

When printing double hits of black, we learned that we need to leave a lot of time in the production schedule for the ink to dry!! We were rushed and these were folded and assembled by the printer a little too early, leading to some ghosting on the white areas inside the cards.
