Project Description

A series of four limited edition books for the new Fedrigoni Collection of FSC papers and boards. Each book references one of the four classical elements—Earth, Water, Air and Fire—each inspired by the many different textures and colours available in this imaginative range. Through a combination of colour and texture, print and finish, each book presents a selection of the very special, and unique papers available from the Fedrigoni FSC range. These outstanding papers and boards offer designers boundless creative possibilities, across a host of print and packaging applications. These books are not only practical when looking for a paper with environmental credentials, but integrate practicality with plain and printed samples of the selected papers.

Production Lesson(s)

With an open brief, there is always a temptation for a designer to indulge oneself. Design LSC's agenda is the same for every client project: to craft effective, creative solutions that address commercial needs. We always work to make each project imaginative and unconventional, but technically workable, rational, and most importantly appropriate. Each book had be a covetable piece, as they were specifically aimed at discerning designers and specifiers. Technically it also needed to demonstrate first class excellence across many different print processes. A very challenging specification was presented as follows:

Process:
Front Page Section: 22 individual die cut unprinted single sheets, collated in sequence, and glued together with the litho printed Centre Page Section and Back Page Section to create a 'glue bound block'.
Centre Pages: 1 individual A5 sheet print in four colour process on two sides and flat foiled in one colour on one side only.
Back Page Section: 23 individual A5 single sheets litho printed on one side only in either black or silver using artwork specifically created for each sheet.

Bellyband:
Flat foiled in one colour on one side and die cut logo to create 'aperture'. Flat size 450mm H x 148mm H scored in four places and vertically wrapped around the booklet. Glued and hand assembled.
