Turn off the lights and see what the world looks like at night. A world-at-night map with glow-in-the-dark ink was a bucket-listed, passion project for Andrew Althouse, and good work tends to come from designers investing time in projects they care about. Having seen some far less interesting, or appropriate, uses of glow ink over the years, it is refreshing to see a designer with a concept behind the function.

Project Description

I love maps. I've got a group of bucket list projects, if you will. Doing a map of the world at night, with some glow-in-the-dark ink was on that list. I've always had the mindset that you should create what you love. My hope is that some people out there appreciate some of the same types of things.

Production Lesson(s)

While collaborating with the guys at Vahalla, we used some really cool print techniques. We used a clear glossy varnish to achieve the black on black look. We also used a double hit of white and gold ink and then registered the glow-in-the-dark ink right on top of the white layer. They did a sweet job! ┬áLesson learned: use a printer who takes as much pride in their craft as I do with design.”
