Just because a product or material is cheap or associated with second-rate standards does not mean you cannot give it new life with a good concept and some design attention. For example, Droga5 put together this set containing placemats, coasters, and a bottle of hot sauce to introduce new employees to the office’s standard practices.

Project Description

Onboarding materials for new hires at ad agency Droga5 in the form of placemats, coasters, and a bottle of hot sauce. These materials are inspired by the many employees who spend their evenings working (and dining) at the office.

Production Lesson(s)

It was a challenge to reference the cheap materials and templated designs that one might see in a diner without devaluing our final product. The clean platinum white paper of the placemats helped the colors pop while retaining that familiar lightweight linen feel. And the natural pulp coasters added a subtle contrast to the rest of the materials.”
