Project Description

Maya Drozdz of VisuaLingual curated an exhibit with the Cincinnati-based non-profit organization Visionaries & Voices, which provides artistic, cultural, and professional opportunities for artists with disabilities. Approximately 60 V&V artists created black and white images which were then "colored in" by outside artists, designers and illustrators using a variety of media, including paint, fabric and video. The exhibit is currently on display at the V&V Gallery at 3841 Spring Grove Ave. in Cincinnati.

All of the original black and white work has also been documented in an exhibition catalog that takes the form of a coloring book, along with b/w artwork that was generously contributed by other artists, including Eleanor Grosch, Dan Funderburgh, Ed Fella, Matthew Walsh and others. Maya Drozdz designed the catalog with over 80 pages of b/w art, ready for coloring. It was printed in an edition of 200, each with a unique screenprinted cover made out of chipboard that's layered with test prints from the VisuaLingual studio. The catalog is for sale for $20 through the V&V online store, and all proceeds benefit the organization and its artists.

Production Lesson(s)

The effect of a chunky black screenprint on top of layered test prints looks great, but the printing surface is actually dimensional from all the layers of ink and presents quite a challenge.”
