It’s not too late to celebrate surviving the end-of-the-Mayan-calendar apocalypse. Corn Studio designed these 2013 calendars—influenced by Aztec design and the Mayan calendar—to parody the doomsday translation and provide an artistic date-poster for post-doomsday 2013. The poster-calendar comes in several combinations of paper and ink colors, and some of the prints have even been aged to appear more authentically ancient.

Project Description

This poster-calendar is based on Aztec art and the history of the natives of Central America. With aesthetic influence from the stone of the Aztec sun god we created a calendar for 2013 and named it "The calendar after the end?" in reference to the false translation of the Mayans prophecy that in 21-12-2012 would be the end of the world. The question mark in the title signifies our ignorance for what may come. This is the ultimate calendar after the end of the world—a tribute to the past, an ode to the future. The poster was screen printed in a large format 70x100 cm with 3 colors on a variety of papers and materials. We chose this size to emulate the actual size of the sun god stone. We printed 3 colors, black, 3 metallic inks (gold, silver, bronze) and phosphorescent ink in variable combinations. The silkscreen printing technique was selected because it is the fanciest printing method with the longest resistibility in time. Selected posters were hand crafted to give them a vintage look.

Production Lesson(s)

Well this project with the amount of details and special inks was challenging by itself. Given the size, it was a bitch to print but we did and we are pretty proud of this!”
