For their 2013 client thank you gift Hovercraft created their own pseudo Cards Against Humanity expansion pack. The black-and-white cards feature silly illustrations and design-centered prompts. When combined they present the potential for a plethora of uproarious combinations. In the office they could be a box full of fun. Then again, they might also serve as amusing team building and brainstorming tools when the need arises. ;-)

Project Description

Hovercraft Against Mankind (HAM) was created as a client thank you gift for 2013. We wanted to stay away from generic corporate holiday gifts and give our clients something that embodied the personality and attitude of the studio. We love the game Cards Against Humanity, so the idea of creating our own custom quasi-expansion pack got us excited. We're pretty proud of the end result and our clients were excited to have something memorable and fun to take home and share with their family and friends. #hampoints

Production Lesson(s)

Always run proofs with packaging projects. Because we were buried with client work, we waited to the last minute to produce this. In an effort to get these in-hand before the holidays, we (and the printer) chose to forgo sampling the box. It seemed standard enough, and they do a ton of high end packaging. Wrapping the black board with thick matte finish paper caused the tops to fit so tight that you couldn't get them off without a prybar and eyebrow sweat. After hand stretching a few dozen of them, we all agreed that it made sense to reproduce the box tops with better tolerances and a less-snug fit. Luckily we weren't up against a real delivery date.”
