Project Description

My husband and I wanted our wedding invitation to reflect our shared love of type and print. Some letters we drew from scratch and others we borrowed from our favourite collections of fonts. We played with different methods of print: laser cutting our initials and silk-screen printing the dates and details, and finally wax sealing the envelope with a hand made stamp. To make the responding as easy as possible especially for our overseas guests, we designed a responsive RSVP site.

Production Lesson(s)

We were fortunate enough to have friends with print facilities, which meant we could do quite a bit of testing before committing to large runs of print. Lasercutting different stocks would give different results in the sense of the type keeping shape and the paper burning, so we learnt quite a bit about how the laser works, also on wood, glass and even on brie cheese. Silkscreen printing was done at my old school, where I knew the students were always up for new experiments, so we tried thermo printing (didn't end up going with it) as well as UV-ink, which worked really nicely, printing type on black stock without any white in it.”
