Implied fire is as good as real fire, especially for holiday wishes. To get themselves, and their friends and clients, into the spirit Toronto-based Pylon Design hand-carved some warm holiday wishes out of linoleum and then printed them on past newspapers, reminding everyone what a, um, peculiar year we had. More from the Pylon team:
The recession has left people in the cold once again this year so we wanted to send out our warmest wishes to our clients. Newspaper is a great item to start a fire with at home, but we wanted everyone, even those without fireplaces to feel the warmth of the season. We block printed by hand a large flame made up of holiday wishes on over 600 newspapers. We then stuffed them in block printed envelopes and sent them on their way to spread some holiday cheer.
Three printing blocks were produced, one for an envelope and two for the newspaper all of which were cut from lino block. The newspapers were randomly selected without discretion (despite some awkward headlines!). Everyone in our office had a hand in cutting out the design and amazingly only one designer was harmed in the process, he will be fine.
